Publication Ethics

All actors of Diskursus’ publication (authors, the editorial team of Diskursus, and reviewers) are expected to adhere to this following ethics of publication.

Concerning the authors

(Content)

Articles submitted to Diskursus must be original and adhere to a scientific (content) and technical (language, artwork, etc.) standard.

(Authorship)

Diskursus is a free open access journal (since July, 2017). Authors who publish with this journal accept the following conditions: (a) authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication; (b) authors are free to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and to transform it for any purpose, with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in Diskursus; (c) authors must guarantee: (c.1) that the article has not been published elsewhere; (c.2) it is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Submission of multi-authored manuscripts implies the consent of each of the authors.

(Plagiarism)

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and, if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. Any suspicion of plagiarism will be investigated by the editorial team. Self-plagiarism (or text recycling) should be avoided as much as possible; however, when text duplication from previous works is necessary, it is then reported transparently and these previous works are fully cited in the publication itself.

Concerning the editors

(Editorial decision)

The editor is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The editor must evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors. At the end of the review process, the editor in chief makes the final decision of acceptance or rejection, based on the reviewers’ reports. If there is any conflict of interest between an editor and an author, the editor in question will not be involved in the review and the decision processes.

(Disclosure and conflicts of interest)

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Concerning the reviewers

(Contribution to editorial decisions)

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper. Any selected expert who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

(Confidentiality)

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.

(Standards of objectivity)

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments. Reviewers are expected inform Diskursus editors of any potential conflict of interest.

(Acknowledgement of sources)

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

(The review process)

Papers which conform to journal scope will be sent to a reviewer by a member of the editorial team. Diskursus applies single-blind peer review, which means that reviewers remain anonymous by default. However, if reviewers want their names to be communicated to the author, Diskursus will allow this. The editor in chief supervises the whole process of review.

(Selection of reviewer)

Based on expertise, editorial team will select a certain number of reviewers to help maintaining the quality of this journal. Diskursus considers it a gentlemen’s agreement that its authors, whose papers were published, also act as potential reviewers for other manuscripts submitted to the journal.

Conflicts of interest

There is a conflict of interest when someone is influenced in his/her choices or actions by a personal interest. In the context of a publication, several elements could seem questionable if the objectivity of the different actors of a publication is uncertain: a) interpretation of a result by an author; b) recommendation of a reviewer; c) decision of an editor. Thus, every suspicion of a conflict of interest should be reported to the Diskursus editorial team.

Potential issues

We do our best to avoid ethical issues before publication, but anyone who suspects an ethical issue is encouraged to contact us at (augustinusswibowo@stfdriyarkara.ac.id). Every suspicion of ethical issues, misconduct or conflict of interest will be investigated by the journal.

The solution to a problem can vary considerably depending on the case. The Diskursus editorial team will always try to find the most appropriate solution and will involve every person or institution concerned by the problem in the investigation.
